Negative Impact of Development

Introduction:

Advancements in technology and industrial sectors have led the human species to many great heights. But every benefit comes with its consequences. This growth has made many compromises with our habitat and the environment. This development has money blinded the human race which for its benefits is constantly taking a dig on the environment and earth. The development and wildlife are inversely related and go side by side.

The consequences are quite diligent, inevitable and prominent. Earthquakes, Melting Glaciers consequently increasing sea levels causing floods in coastal areas, Tsunamis due to the instability of the earth’s crust, Forest Fires due to human errors and rising temperatures, Extreme temperatures in certain areas. Chronic and extremely hazardous mass spread of diseases causing a great loss of human resources.

In this blog we are going to focus on the effects of development on Wildlife and Humans.

Hazardous Effects of Development on Wildlife and Humans:

Wildlife, Humans and every other living organism on the Earth are the things that make it the only living planet in the solar system. The co-existence of humans and wildlife go hand in hand. We, humans, are very much dependent on the wildlife for our daily livestock, clothing, medicines and many more things. But due to the greedy need for development we are constantly eradicating wildlife and even human health.

On development factors such as the need for livestock, wildlife is brutally abused. Animals and aquatic life are hunted on a large scale daily for the purposes of food, clothing, medicines, research, etc.

The industrial development such as deforestation, construction of dams, releasing of
hazardous chemicals in the form of waste into open air, rivers and land gives a direct and deep impact onto the wildlife along with on humans itself. This leads to a decrease in the natural habitat of the animals, disbalance in the food chain and ecosystem.

The development leads to an increase in the pollution levels resulting in increasing global warming which indirectly disturbs the wildlife which further also affects human life. The use of radio-frequency harms the birds, polluted rivers decrease the life span of aquatic life, the use of plastic kills the animals and due to global warming wildfires occurred affecting flora and fauna.

Real-life Effects of Development on Wildlife and Humans:

  • Amazon and Australia wild-fires:

Due to a massive increase in global temperatures because of extreme industrial development things like wild-fire are now occurring repetitively. Recently in 2019 there were wild-fires in the Amazon rain forest and Australia. In these wild-fires a large amount of flora and fauna were destroyed. Reportedly over 906 thousand hectares of rain forest within the Amazon was been lost to fires and more than 25 million acres of forest were burned across Australia. More misery was that more than a Billion animals including mammals, birds, and reptiles were killed due to the wildfire. Many species of animals came to the verge of becoming endangered.

  • Outbreak of COVID-19 Pandemic:

Humans have always exploited the earth and the living beings on it just for the sake of development. They not only risk the lives of wildlife but along with them put their lives too into danger. A very recent and ongoing example of over exploitation of the environment is seen as a result of an outbreak of a deadly and life-threatening virus named Corona Virus turned into COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, this virus has been rapidly spread all over the globe with around 2.1 million people tested positive and has taken a toll of more than 1 lakh 40 thousand human lives.

All this is a result of the money-oriented mid-set of the humankind. Just for economic development humans have disturbed the environmental balance by treating the wildlife as a mere asset. This corona virus was originated at the wet markets of china where several wild animals are used as livestock and food for boosting the economy of the food industry.

Conclusion:

Humans should stop considering the natural resources, wildlife and environment of their own possessions. We should use the earth sustainably and stop the destruction that the paid off by the environment because of the development.

In fact, we should use this development to encourage, improve, and sustain our wildlife, environment, and earth.
